Set sail for new horizons in this season’s gorgeous nautical styles

Nautical is always a must in the summer months and 2017 is no exception. Favoured by the a-list, with everyone from the Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton to Alexa Chung and Emma Roberts all being partial to a yachting inspired ensemble. This season be a style captain in our top maritime inspired styles.

Embrace a naval colour palette of red, white and blue for the basis of this look. Choose blazers with military detailing, such as gold buttons to emphasise the nautical look. Wear over a tee and fitted trousers to perfect you smart/casual off duty style. Opt for chunky, masculine watches and team with a straw trilby for the ultimate summer vibe.

Jacket, £499; hat, £79, both Holland Cooper. Vest, £42, Celtic & Co. Trousers, £45, Marks & Spencer. Watch, £139, Paul Hewitt

Relaxed suiting in ice blue hues, such as this Reiss blazer and tailored trouser, will give a nod to nautical without going over board. Wearing suiting over fine knitwear, such as this bretton inspired, striped, round neck sweater from Marks and Spencer is incredibly sharp and pulls the maritime palette together. Once again search out more androgynous watches and look out from sailor style stripe details.

Jacket, £250; trousers, £125, both Reiss. Top, £29.50, Marks & Spencer. Watch, £89, Daniel Wellington

Want to add a feminine twist to sailing style? Then team a flirty hemmed skirt with one of this season’s favourite motif tops. Saying it with a sweater is always best and we love this piece of nautical knitwear teaming navy and white stripes with an anchor design. If this outfit feels too subdued for summer then add a pop of colour with some white wedges and this gorgeous red, lobster clutch from Bell & Fox.

Jumper, £10.50, Kaleidoscope. Skirt, £279, Madeleine. Heeled sandals, £27.99, New Look. Bag, £134, Bell & Fox

White, high waisted, wide legged trousers are the perfect embodiment of this trend. Go full on sailor by adding a bretton striped sweater and this Monsoon, nautical inspired jacket which boasts military buttons and frogging detailing. The hint of gold thread adds a touch of glamour to the look.

Choose classic nautical symbols to really embrace the trend. Look for anchor emblems on accessories, such as this gorgeous Kaleidoscope wicker bag, to give a more subtle implementation of this look. Boating style prefers a relaxed fit, so select soft, wide fit trousers and look for cropped hems and piping details that add a flash of colour.

This maritime look naturally lends itself to a more sporting style. Once again the anchor logo comes into play with these androgynous shorts, paired with this ‘Hello Sailor’ embroidered tee from Sugar Hill Boutique.

Embroidered sayings are a key micro trend this season and luckily this simple tee slots into the sailing trend perfectly.

We have continued the sporting thread by adding some appropriate navy trainers with cute white and red striped socks.

Dress, £65, J by Jasper Conran at Debenhams. Watch, £135, Ted Baker

This seafaring trend is reliant on the right colour palette and this gorgeous bright red and white pinafore style dress is a perfect holiday look, make sure to pack this in your suitcase pronto and team with white birkenstock sandals for the perfect beach side look.

The wide straps and square neckline reflect the linear pattern of the mismatched stripe print, so keep jewellery simple, such as this classic, white strap, Ted Baker watch.
