Conor McGregor will be fuming with Floyd Mayweather's latest comments

The former five-weight world champion took on the UFC’s poster boy in a multi-million-pound bout, which was aptly dubbed ‘The Money Fight’, in August.

McGregor entered the contest with no professional boxing experience to his name, a fact which led many to write off his chances of pulling off one of the greatest upsets in sporting history.

Despite not having a single minute of ring time to his name, McGregor more than held his own against Mayweather for the early rounds.

However, his old enemy of fatigue quickly set in, which

McGregor was hailed by many for his gutsy performance, which led some fight fans to call for a rematch.

However, many put the lightweight champion’s early success in the opening rounds were down to Mayweather’s eagerness to make the much-maligned fight a show.

According to the man himself, that was indeed the case.

He said: “Everybody is trying to protest the Mayweather-McGregor fight but I’m going to tell y’all the truth.

“You know I carried McGregor. You know I made it look good for y’all.”

Immediately after registering his 50th professional victory, Mayweather retired from boxing for a second time.

Should a rematch between Mayweather and McGregor ever come to fruition, the latter is confident he can become the first man to defeat the Michigan native.

“I know if I went another go with him, under boxing rules, I’d get that win, I know that,” Ireland’s first belt holder said.

“I know that. I know by the feeling of him in the first fight.

“He had to change his whole approach. He fought completely than he (usually) fought, he couldn’t figure out what I was doing early on.

“I feel with the lessons I learned from that first fight, if I had another go around, I’d get him.”
